Using a Calendar Alongside Your Mailbox

Your mailbox is for email. It covers IMAP, POP3 and SMTP, plus webmail, and calendar and contact syncing are not part of it. There is no CalDAV or Exchange ActiveSync calendar to connect, so please do not try to add your mailbox as a calendar account: it will not work.

That does not stop you from using a calendar next to your mail. Here is how people usually do it.

Keep your calendar where it already lives

Most people already have a calendar they can carry on using:

  • The calendar built into your phone (the iPhone or Android calendar app)
  • A calendar account you already use, such as a Google, iCloud or Outlook.com calendar
  • A calendar in your company's own scheduling tool

Set the calendar up in the calendar app as its own account, and set your AtrioMail mailbox up in the mail app for email. The two live side by side on the same device.

Meeting invitations still work

Meeting invitations are ordinary email messages with an attachment (a file ending in .ics), so they arrive in your mailbox normally:

  1. Open the invitation in your mail app or in webmail at https://system.atriomail.com/webmail
  2. Save or open the .ics attachment
  3. Your calendar app adds the event

Replies you send (accept, decline) go back to the organiser as email, the same as any other reply.

What you can do in the control panel

  • Email Mailboxes: create mailboxes, reset a password, and change storage with the Disk space setting on the mailbox's edit page
  • Email Aliases, Email Forwarders and Email Catch-All: route extra addresses to a mailbox
  • Email Migrations: copy existing mail in over IMAP. Migration moves mail only: calendars, contacts and tasks are not copied

Good habits

  • 📅 Block focus time on your calendar
  • 🎨 Colour code separate calendars
  • ⏰ Set reminders
  • 📝 Put the joining details in the event, not only in the email
